  • Chum Kem & Son Orchestre Oriental - Balliam Balliao
Akuphone presents to its loyal subscribers an exclusive digital reissue of the only known 45 rpm of the multi-faceted singer Chum Kem. Recorded in March 1962, these four pieces are of an incredible originality. Indeed, its author and interpreter of Cambodian origin but who "thinks in Chinese" according to the notes appearing on the original sleeve also expresses in Italian. Close to King Norodom Shihanouk, himself a singer who has released a few albums, he has his entrances to the Royal Palace where his songs are very popular. A surprising example of hybridization proper to the so-called exotic music of the mid-20th century.

Remastered by Josh Stevenson. Originally released by Barclay, France, 1962 (70442).
