🛎️ Ko Shin Moon's 78 Fragments: La Rivière 🛎️ 🎶: akuphone.bandcamp.com/track/la-rivi-re 🎶: soundcloud.com/akuphone/la-riviere 👉 Original sample: gallica.bnf.fr/ark:/12148/bpt6k1081254x At the end of 2018, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Gallica BnF, Akuphone and Ko Shin Moon were invited to create a piece from the library’s audio archives. After working on it for several weeks, a first version was presented during the anniversary ceremony. The project continued to develop over four months before arriving at a definitive version. The scope of the project was limited to audio recordings from the library’s collection that were free of legal restrictions, which meant: only 78 rpm records from the first half of the 20th century. The format is unique, left to specialists and forgotten by listeners and producers. 78 records are almost never used for sampling and it’s this application that makes Ko Shin Moon’s album stand out. Many factors needed to be considered, including white noise, breaths, the harshness of certain frequencies, and the production style from the era of the recordings. Using these precious resources as a creative tool, Ko Shin Moon made substantial rearrangements, but they forced themselves to respect the original tuning of the recordings by setting their analog synthesizers and instruments to the same microtonality as the records. #fusion #global #folktronica #sampling #synth #luth #archives #gallica

Whilst the synth tones on this retrospective land firmly in the late ‘80s, time and place become far less certain as Władysław Komendarek turns his way through these eccentric structures. As a lover of both classical and unconventional approaches, these tracks find the Polish synth maestro utilising a vibrant sound palette and a keen sense of the synthesizer’s kinetic abilities to push orchestral ideas into outer zones. – JH @ The Vinyl Factory 👉 akuphone.com/catalog/1upSr6UCpauw#content Check out : thevinylfactory.com/features/the-10-best-new-vinyl-releases-this-week-26th-july/

You might call this experimental electronic music, but that doesn’t really do it justice. This is the sound of cars crashing in slow motion, the creaking of a haunted house, a cupboard’s worth of instruments falling down the stairs. Japanese-Ukranian duo Maya Kuroki and Tamara Filyavich are here presented as Tamayugé, and their album Baba Yaga, named after the ambivalent old crone from Slavic folklore, is their bizarre and misshapen masterpiece. Dig it, if you dare! 👻 (text by Bleep.com) 👉 akuphone.com/catalog/agXjSC6rbaI#content #Electronic #Avantgarde #Jpop #Chiptune #Abstract #Synthpop #Darkfolklore #Doompop #babayaga

Referring back to its namesake — an innovative cult feminist magazine distributed in early 20th century Japan — Seitō: In the Beginning, Woman Was the Sun is a precious document of untold treasures and strategies conjured through irreverent art-making. This compilation brings together a host of female Japanese artists furrowing deeply experimental paths in electronic music. Expect atavistic drone masterpieces (Fuji-Yuki’s ‘Blood Moon’), left field club fare (Kiki Hitomi’s ‘Gain and Lose’) and squirming noise-scapes (Miki Yui’s ‘Radiclav’). https://bleep.com/release/134220-various-artists-seito-in-the-beginning-woman-was-the-sun

Boomkat.com Product Review: ‘Seitō’ is a compilation of modern, experimental Japanese female artists gathered to echo the stylistic richness of the ’Tokyo Flashback’ series issued by P.S.F. in the early ‘90s, under a title referring to a cult feminist magazine printed in Japan during the 1910s Yet another curveball from the Paris-based Akuphone label, ‘Seitō: In the Beginning, Woman Was the Sun’ lassos artists of traditions ranging from dub to the avant-garde, dance music and free improv, serving a broad but coherent cross-section of music by Japan lasses active at home and abroad. The distance between Fuji Yuki's doomy, noisy tract ‘Blood Moon’ and the way Keiko Higuchi channels Diamanda Galás in the low-lying folk drone torpor of ‘Okesa Bushi’ exemplifies the extent of the LP’s remit, which bows to haunt dub abstraction in Kiki Hitomi and Disrupt Jahtari’s KMS-like ‘Gain And Lose’, a skunking house workout by Mikado Koko, and the album’s centrepiece highlight, the small sound shuffles of Miki Yui in ‘Radicalv.’

Wildly polychromatic synth-pop and late ‘80s dancers from the “Polish genius of Synthesisers” Władysław Komendarek. Hits right between the eyes of Stroom chin-up Soviet disko and the earliest strains of Eurobeat. We can only imagine this music must have been a major splash of colour against the backdrop of brutalist tower blocks and strained socio-politics in late ‘80s Warsaw, although trying to imagine this soudtracking Kieślowski's Dekalog is causing our minds to short circuit...
