Cheb Gero (FR - Akuphone)
A genuine music lover and chronic collector, Cheb Gero has cleared up and digged into musical worlds ever since his teens. First engrossed in the reading of extreme rock mail-order catalogues before the Internet, then stuck to peer to peer websites in search of the most psychedelic and progressive 1960s and 70s bands from east to west, north to south, Cheb Gero completed his music knowledge during the 8 years he spent as a record dealer. Afro beats, post-punk, contemporary music, French songs, all styles and niche came to his attentive ears. Still, he decided to focus his researches on pop and folk musical rarities from all over the world.

In 2015, He launched Akuphone in an “archiving” spirit, drawn by a desire to “explore the world through music”. In an archaeology-like approach, his goal is to put into the limelight the work of artists - musicians and singers - unknown to the general public or fallen into oblivion in the so-called “Western countries”. Far from supporting a romantic or fetishist vision of extra-Western music, the label aims at linking these productions to their historical and political contexts, placing them back in the social and cultural conditions in which they emerged. In 2017 he engaged into the production of new artists such as the duo Ko Shin Moon.

He also currently hosts two radio shows: Decolonize Ur Mind on Lyl Radio and Radio Gero on Rinse France, as well as party events such as the Belleville Habibi.
